Augustine the Great

A blessed memorial of the great Saint Augustine (354-430), bishop and doctor of the Church, and perhaps the greatest theologian in her history (although, like the toss-up between Mozart and Bach and others in the realm of music, there are any number of ‘greatest hits’ of theologians, even if Augustine can be said to have provided material for them all).
I love the apparently ‘chance’ events of God’s providence, that things need not have been the way they turned out; the present and the future really are up to us to shape as we might. We nearly did not have Augustine.

Praise the Lord
